How to Reconnect with Your Values Amidst a Crazy Schedule

I love control as a human. Honestly, we all do in some shape or form. Control over our emotions, control over our calendar, especially control when it comes to being right.

Anyone? Anyone? Just me.

Not a chance—Raise your hand, you!

Control gives us a sense that we have our shit together. And yet, it is so fleeting.
And so forceful.

Especially in life when the calendar gets really full to the brim, when you are literally tired of saying you’re tired and we have all heard the new big bad B-word, ‘busy’.

This is real life.
The ebb and flow, the hustle and slow.
We are in it.
We are alive.

And some days and weeks and months will feel like life is a f*cking tidal wave.

How do we surf it, enjoy it, get our shit together to zoom out and most likely remember that a lot of these moments in life we requested, we said yes to and we pasted on our vision board?

We ground down.
Feet planted.
We come back home to the home within.
The inner house of core values.

When we are able to define and align to our core values, we are able to remember what matters, check ourselves before we literally wreck ourselves and find moments of alignment. Already wrecked, don’t fret, this works for you, too.

Values are the things/words/actions that matter most to us, our inner GPS, our homecoming. Values create the foundation, they are the remembering of who we are at the core, not instagram or that cool outfit, they are way beneath the layers.

Sooooo, I want that.
Now, how do I find them:

First, google ‘VALUES WORD BANK’ and press the IMAGE button.

Second, take out a pen and write down your top ten values from one of those lists. I know, this can feel daunting. This can feel absurd. You can be mad at me, I can handle it.

Next, truth check. Time to be really real with yourself and ask for the core values, not the dream or aspirations you hope to be one day after you finish that last Brene Brown book.

I know. I know. Me, too.

Finally, write out the top five words that feel like you.
That feel like home. That matter most.

These are your values.

These are your alignment check-in.

These are the inner GPS to get you where you want to go...in LIFE.

These are the filter for your yes and your no.

These are when you are clear that you need some new friends.

These are what you want to do with your weekends.

These are what you want your calendar to be so full of during your work week.

These are you.

Let’s align to our values.
Moment to moment. Day by day.
And know we always, always have the choice to check in.

And the choice is where we loosen the grips of control.
Meet ourselves in the current moment.
And realign again and again and again.

Start to string together the moments of alignment to live our own lives, not someone else’s.

This is being human. This is being alive.
This is self realization and actualization all in one.
